Bret Michaels Kicks of another PIKTOBER at the Hard Rock Hotel Orlando

I can’t imagine a better place to be for the beginning of BC Awareness Month than at the Hard Rock Hotel Orlando with Bret Michaels singing 20 feet away from me.

My first experience with the Hard Rock at all was at the Hard Rock Café last year during October (yes, I live in a cave).  My family went to Universal Orlando for the day and ate at the restaurant.  I was overwhelmed with excitement just from being there.  On the way in, I didn’t see the gift shop to my right.  On the way out, I couldn’t miss it.

PINKTOBER!  My excitement only grew.  Pink merchandise from the Hard Rock; OMG!   Needless to say, the wallet and credit card came out and my purchases’ began.  I just smiled through the whole store.

None of that compared to this past Thursday night.  After my family moved to Orlando one year ago, my friend introduced me to this thing called “Velvet Sessions”.  It’s held at the Universal Orlando Hard Rock Hotel.  Once a month, the hotel transforms their elegant lobby into a concert venue for a limited number of guests.

They:

1.       Bring in an artist or group from the ‘80s and 90’s.

2.       Charge a very reasonable ticket price $30-$50.

3.       Arrange for a VIP section as a slightly higher price.

4.       Serve specific beverages that are sponsored for free.

5.       Serve amazing appetizers throughout the area for free.

Drinks and appetizers are served from 6pm until the act begins.

This month’s “Velvet Session” featured Bret Michaels kicking off PINKTOBER.  At approximately 8:30pm Bret Michaels took the stage.  Bret Michels totally rocked the event.  The crowd was singing and hands were swaying in the air. This was Bret’s second PINKTOBER.  I hope there will be a third one next year.

The monthly “Velvet Sessions” for me is my new favorite thing to do.  I get to dress up and party with people who for the most part share my demographics.  I feel very uncomfortable at a night club with only one particular beat blaring in my ears all night.  Yes, I’m getting along in years and it’s ok.

“Velvet Sessions” is unique to Orlando (good thing I live here); however the PINKTOBER merchandise is sold in all of the rock shops, cafes, hotels and casinos.  25% of the sale goes to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and to a local charity chosen by the local hotel or café.  Not only that, the hotel designates a certain number of rooms that are designer “Positively Pink Rooms”.  And you can actually buy the pink sheets.

If you visit the Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta, they have a pink pool party.  All of the Hard Rock Hotels hold an event to kick of PINKTOBER.  How cool is that?

A lot of time and money goes into fundraising events.  The commitment from the Hard Rock this year has captured my heart.

Throughout the month of October I will be focusing, for obvious reasons, on those that give and give and give.  Those of you who do give will never really understand the gratitude a survivor feels toward you.  It too is overwhelming!

For today…..I thank the all of the Hard Rock Hotels and Bret Michaels for a very special “Velvet Session” I won’t soon forget.

After spending some time on Google researching new techniques for breast cancer reconstruction, I am still finding very little useful information for what happens when things go wrong.

There are websites and some doctors using fat injections for various procedures but not to regenerate radiated skin such as in my case.

Why is that?
